| CULINARY TEAM CANADA WINS OLYMPIC GOLD, GOLD AND SILVER AT THE VKD WORLD CULINARY OLYMPICS! Erfurt, Germany - Culinary Team Canada has won Olympic GOLD in the National Team Cold “Restaurant” Category, GOLD in the Cold Buffet Category, GOLD in the Pastry Category and SILVER in the Hot Restaurant Category at the VKD World Culinary Olympics. Monday morning October 18, the Team prepared an extensive GOLD cold table presentation featuring Canadian food products such as Lobster, Salmon, Pork, Rabbit, Squab, Veal, Duck and Lamb to name just a few. The presentation included buffet platters, restaurant dishes and pastry and was supported by glass totems and lights designed especially for this display by Montpetit Glass Studios in Procter, BC. On Wednesday October 20, the Team faced off against 7 of the 32 National Teams USA, Germany, Sweden, Australia, Netherlands, Portugal and Norway - in the hot kitchen competition and finished with SILVER. | was a fish starter with Salmon, Lobster and Scallops followed by the main course of Duck and finished with a warm Lemon Pudding, Chocolate Stout Pie and Cherry Ice Cream for dessert. At the closing ceremonies on Thursday it was announced that the Team won the best overall score in the Restaurant Category in the Cold display an Olympic GRAND GOLD! The Team finished 4th overall and commenting on their strong showing, Team Captain Shawn Whalen, CCC, stated that, “ our achievement of 3 Gold in the Cold Competition at the World Culinary Olympics is one of the proudest moments of my life as we have finally peaked at the level of excellence I knew we were capable of.” Team Manager Judson Simpson, CCC, affirmed that, “we are thrilled to have had this opportunity to represent Canada and showcase the cuisines of our country. As Chefs, it is a great culinary achievement!” |
